The Different Kinds of DrumSticks
What kind of music you are playing will determine what kind of drumsticks you will need. Medium to large drumsticks are used for rock-n-roll drumming. Usually a rock drummer will go with a 5A drumstick. For practicing an aluminum or graphite drumstick can be used on a practice pad. You shouldn't use these for playing on your drum set. Breakage is going to happen pretty much no matter what. For beginners a low quality wooden drumstick will work just fine. They can also be a back up pair for heavy music in case you break a drumstick. Low quality drumsticks are made of hickory maple and oak. A higher quality stick is made of pure maple, birch and occasionally pine.
The
options for drum sticks are amazing. There are so many different name brands,
sizes, tips, weights; the list goes on and on. You can also get drumsticks in
different colors, prints, holographic colors, neon, even glow in the dark. If
you are a full time drummer you probably go through a lot of drumsticks a month.
Paying extra for a pair of drumsticks because they are colored or electrically lighted
may not be something that you want to spend money on. However, having a lighted
pair of drumsticks that you use to play a couple certain songs would be pretty cool for the
fans to see. Children love bright colors. If you have a child that is becoming
interested in music particular drum playing, getting them a pair of colored or
lighted drumsticks may help them to get more interested and stay interested. A
new popular thing is to have your drumsticks personalized. There are a few
different ways to do this. This is painting, screen printing, and laser
engraving. Painting and screen printing will eventually wear off if the drumsticks
are played. Laser etching is permanent.Personalized drum sticks are becoming popular. Even if they are kept as a keep sake any drummer would love a pair of personalized drumsticks. Personalized drumsticks also make great gifts for drummers.
If you are an experienced drummer ordering your drumsticks online would be very easy. However if you are beginner you may want to visit your local music store and talk to a drum professional about the different kinds of drumsticks and what will work for you and the kind of music you are playing. A smaller privately owned music store will have more time to get to know you and what your needs are. So if you are not sure what you are needing you may want to go that route. The best and fastest way to become a great drummer is to practice, practice, practice. So grab some sticks and get to it.
